My son Jack, clearly very excited, told me he was looking forward to being a part of “gay movie night” tonight.
Hmmm…. hmmmmm… aha! Right. I hope he pronounces the ‘M’ at the end of the word “game” a little bit more distinctly from the word “movie” when he tells friends and neighbors about it tomorrow. Or people will start asking questions. Questions like, “So, Jack… have you ever watched any… gladiator movies?”
As it was, we did not have time for movies, just games. So we called it “game night.” But still… the (liaison? blend? consonant cluster?) of the two nasal consonants was such that the /m/ from game merged with the /n/ from night. So “game night” was still very close to “gay night.” I need to invite a whole different group of friends over to pull THAT off.
